Stephen Hawking was a British, theoretical physicist and cosmologist well-known worldwide who was born on January 8, 1942, in Oxford, England. Renowned for apposing sharp mind and adequate persistence, Hawking has left a historical mark on science and continue to do so.

Thus, there is no doubt that Hawking’s life stated a tenacious mentality and a great mind. Nonetheless, the subject is depicted to have achieved great success in the scientific society despite being diagnosed with a severe motor neuron disease that hinders his physical movements.

Hawking first acquired the interest in physics at the University of Oxford and later went on for a doctoral research with Dennis Sciama at the University of Cambridge in 1962. This time was seminal for him in terms of the choice of the field of theoretical physics.

His work flourished to its acme at the time he was working on black holes. In 1974 he came with Hawking radiation that revolutionized the field by stating that black holes do radiate and break down, unlike what people had thought.


Even though Hawking never ventured into space, his work has indubitably inspired space exploration. By virtue of his knowledge and insight in cosmology, particularly black holes, he has enriched mankind’s understanding of these cosmic events.

He is the role model acting as a scientist popularizing science and also as an example of a brave person. His works will always remain relevant and indelible; thus, making him one of the largest figures in the history of science.
